New Things Happening..

Hi,

Sorry for not posting lately. Have had a million ideas swirling in my head and now finally have unscrambled everything!

After having a big think about the way Cot Couture is heading, I have decided to change things up a bit. I love being able to provide a hand-made, custom made service - however time is now a major factor in this, and custom made takes many hours from start to finish. I never set out to make Cot Couture become a massive mass produced product, nor did I just want it to be a hobby, so I have come up with the best thing that satisfies all of my desires!

From January 2011 we are starting a fresh. We have a new website underway, new ideas, new inspirations and we are focusing on 8 - 10 complete nursery looks.

Everything is still being handmade in Adelaide. All of our bedding will continue to be exactly the way it is - pre-washed, handmade and hand packaged, but the custom made service will no longer be available. Instead I think it will be easier to decide! I have hand picked some gorgeous new fabrics - including my very own design whimsy Meadow, and we will offer accessories and decor to co-ordinate with each design that you will be able to purchase from the Cot Couture website.

It will be simple to create you couture nursery. You will be able to shop online with our new check-out system, everything will be in stock and pre-made and ready to ship. Very easy!

We will contimue custom made to the middle of December, and then after the Christmas break and new year, will launch our new website. Stay tuned!

Anyhoo...

I just wanted to share a photo. I am not a good gardener at all, but I have always wanted roses. So I planted some last year. Vintage colours that my Nan and grandma used to grow and love. My beautiful roses are coming out at the moment, and I just couldn't go past this beautiful rose. Thinking of you Nan xxx

Having a break

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am taking my annual leave for 3 weeks and Cot Couture will be having a break until the end of September. Just need to have some time with the family, before it gets a bit crazy with expos in October. Loving this new blog design - how cute is it :) Thanks blogger for letting us choose such cool backgrounds.

Just wanted to share my favourite design for the week - Peppermint Birdies.

I really love this fabric and it is so clean, crisp and modern and perfect for a unisex nursery. I love the fact that you can add lots of different colours to a room with this design as it is so neutral. Team it with the Peppermint Crisp Stripe (makes me hungry!) for a gorgoeus look.

Hopefully next post I will be able to share my newly designed fabric....stay tuned...

Have received my strike offs - but need a little colour change, so just waiting for them to come to me again. Should be able to give you a little sample of the first 2 designs soon!

Getting ready for the Baby and Toddler Show in October. Although it is a while away it is my favourite show to do all year so I like to get organised early! We are doing a huge nursery display with Touchwood Cots again, so always happy to be working with them.

Thanks to all the lovely people who came and visited our stall at Mathilda's market last Sat. It was a lovely intimate market and so many beautiful products. Would love to do it again soon.

By the way have to say I saw the best movie of the year last week at midnight and again last night - Twilight Eclipse - it was absolutely amazing. If you haven't read the books, or seen the movies you are definately missing out! I am such a huge fan and I smiled through the whole movie I was so content. Kristen Stewart is amazing and I love her as Bella - she captures her so beautifully. Go and catch it while you can. Think I may make a quilt in a tribute to Stephenie Meyer - hmmmm.... he he

Hi,

I am very excited, have sent off my first round of fabric designs off to the printers and awaiting my strike off! Can't wait to see the designs on fabric.

I have started my own little line of fabrics under jessica blown design. I am launching a website soon for my fabrics and they will be available for wholesale and retail sale. Only starting with 2 designs but they will be children's designs and unisex so everyone can use them.

Cot Couture will also have them in the fabric design range so they will be available to be made in comforters, cushions and quilt covers too.

New Touchwood Beds

As you know I have been working with Touchwood at the Expos and they are an amazing brand and I love their products. Well my single beds arrived last week and it was like Xmas Day for me!

We have had a busy afternoon getting rid of the old furniture and putting in the new. My piccies aren't the best but you get the idea!

I love redecorating! Still got a few more bits and pieces to go till the room is done - but am loving it at the minute.

I was very lucky to receive some gorgeous photos from one of my customers Sarah from NSW, who has ordered a couple of times now and her most recent order was a single bed quilt cover.

We no longer have any of the vintage birdcages fabric, but I was able to order a small amount in (and sorry it is now completely gone!) and we made a beautiful double reverse (another look on the other side too) single bed quilt cover, with a couple of throw cushions too.

It is such a modern, contemporary look with a touch of whimsy and just so beautiful. Her decor and wall art tie everything together so well.

Hi!

Well the website is packed with more new fabrics designs - just to make your choice a little harder.
Some of my favourite new ones -

I love the Heart trees fabric and paired with the Pink and Choc Birdies it makes a stunning combination. The Light Blue Damask is a lovely unisex design that is so timeless.

Mum and I are off to Sydney on Thursday to set up for the PBC Expo at Rosehill Gardens, Ropsehill. We love Sydney and can't wait to get the show started. Our stand is 012 and is located on level B. We are next to our friends at icandy prams and the fabulous Touchwood cots display that we are apart of too. You will be able to see 7 different rooms set up in different Cot Couture designs at the Touchwood stand.

We will have 40 different cot comforter designs available for purchase in our special bedding package that is a great price. There really will be a design to suit every person!

The Expo starts the 30th of April and finishes on the 2nd of May. Hope to see you there!

My friends at Tobil & Co have brought out the fabulous Dingbums to Australia. They are a gorgeous range of little chairs and ottomans that bring a modern look to your home while giving you little ones a practical seat.

They come in a beautiful range of colours - my personal fave is the bright orange - that is so cool.

On the Touchwood stand at the melbourne Expo last year they were added to the nursery designs and they just went so well with all of my fabrics.

I just love receiving my new fabrics! They are always so fresh and new and I can't wait to get things made with them.

This is a new selection that I picked to use for a unisex nursery. So many of my customers don't know what they are having and do find it difficult to choose something that they would be happy with for a girl and boy. So I thought this selection may be nice - pastel colours in soft shades with a cute whimsy theme of eggs, hens, wagons, shoes, water, milk, rain. All kiddie things..

It is available now, although the fabric design pics aren't up yet - they will be up in around a week.

Also a quick note that Nicole Kerley is currently preparing to give birth to her second bubby, so she will be taking a break for a couple of months. Nic chose the Coral

Garden fabrics for her little one's nursery and I will have to get her to send us a piccie. Stay tuned for news on her little one's arrival!

March - expo seasopn starts!

Well March is here and the fun begins for the year!

On the 19th of March the Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expo begins in Adelaide and Cot Couture will be there with some gorgeous cot comforter sets to buy for your little one's nursery.

At all the Expo's we do, we make up around 40 different cot comforter sets, so if you are undecided on the fabrics and can't choose them, pop down and take a look at them to help with your decision making!

We offer a very special bedding package for the Expo - so if you come down and visit you can take advantage of our complete bedding package that we offer that includes a sheet set, matching cushion, and a teddy with any of our cot comforters at the Expo.

Betty from NSW recently ordered a cot comforter set made up of retro space stripe and transport spot. She added a Red Quack cushion with Retro Space Stripe back to the set to complete her look. Looks so gorgeous!

Been very busy the last few weeks. Love making up so many different comforters and some combinations that I have never thought of before that look so gorgeous!

Please check out the new Practical Parenting magazine, we have a little ad in there. Such a great magazine and always full of great tips for pregnancy, baby and kids.

Also coming up in a couple of months is the Pregnancy, Children's and babies Expo in Adelaide. It is from March 19 - 21st at Wayville Showgrounds. We didn't do it last year as it fell on my youngest sons birthday, but this year we are there and with a bigger stand and showing off our new packaging - fancy boxes for your cot couture!! We love doing the Expo's and always enjoy meeting everyone there. We have our great value bedding packages there so come and check them out. Over 40 designs made up and ready to take home!

We are also going back to Sydney in April for the PBC Expo there and will be teaming up with Touchwood Cots again for a big nursery display. We will have our stand there so will be a great show!

2010 - Wow time has gone so fast!

Hope everyone had a relaxing break over the Xmas and New Year Period. I cetainly did.

We are now taking orders again for Nicole Kerley's fabulous canvases and custom made embroidered quilts.

Due to the volume of orders at times for our custom made items, I have decided to weekly update the status of turnaround times on the blog. Sometimes we get an influx of orders for our custom made items and as they do take a fair amount of time to complete it is always good to give you an idea of the current wait times, so that is what I am going to do on the blog every week. Hope that helps...

Little Projects over the holidays..

Now that it is a little quieter, I have been busy finally getting the boys room organised and decorated properly!

Working with Touchwood cots I have had lots of inspiration and ordered 2 of their fabulous 5 drawer chest of drawers and they look awesome. The single beds are on their way so once they are here I will be able to complete the whole look.

Here are the drawers - one for each! love the two tone look with the white top and black base. The chests are NZ pine and are so solid. Go to the Touchwood cots website for more details..

I have also designed their wall art myself (left hand corner) and in the other corner is some cute wall art by Nicole Kerley. I had some canvases printed in the city of designs that I whipped up on Illustrator. My inspiration is from the Nescafe tv ad where they have the gorgeous song "Me and You sitting on the train, Me and You listeing to the Rain..."
The boys and I always sing that song and I think it is so cute, so I made some canvases to show our song!
I will take a piccie once they are up on the wall (another long job!) as there are 4 of them in total.

The boys quilt covers have been done in the Owl in Tree fabric designs, one is red and one is brown. They are gorgeous. Once the beds arrive I will be able to deck them out with the quilts, comforter throws and cushions.

Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

I would like to thank my Mum for her love and support this year. She is an amazing business partner, best friend and Mum, and I couldn't do what I love doing without her. If you have come to an expo this year, you would have no doubt met my fabulous Mum! My Mum and Dad recently have become business partners in Cot Couture with me which is a huge thing for me to think that they believe in it so much like I do. xx

I would also like to thank my wonderful sewing assistants Kay and Marie. Kay has been with me from day one, and her fabulous eye, attention to detail and perfect sewing makes her a true asset to Cot Couture. We wouldn't be where we are now without her!
Plus I love our chats about our favourite things - bags and shoes and Prada!

Marie has been with Cot Couture for the second part of this year and her sewing is fabulous. Thank-you Marie for joining our team this year!

A big thank-you to Andrew, from Designer Images in Gawler, who does an outstanding job with the Cot Couture website, the Expo posters, and all the gorgeous ads you see in the glossy mags.
I continue to clog up his email with changes and add ons to the site, but he is always happy to do them for me and with lightning speed. Thanks Andrew!

Big thanks to Nicole Kerley who does an amazing job of her handpainted canvases. We are so lucky to have her on the Cot Couture web site and her canvases are truly breathtaking! Nic and her family are welcoming a new addition in April next year so she is one busy Mum!

I don't have many products on my site, but I couldn't go past their beautiful Australian made designs. It was a pleasure to meet you both in melbourne this year, and I hope we can continue to work together for a long time! x

It's a biggish week for me this week. He he I have 4 Nickelback concerts in 6 days.. and I am seeing New Moon at midnight on Wednesday!

I think I am going to be a little tired...but hey sometimes all good things come at once!

Just wanted to also share about a beautiful new magazine called Little One Baby http://www.littleonebaby.com.au/
It is a gorgeous magazine feauring real life nurseries and gorgoeus products and I met Amy Sim who is the associate editor from the magazine in melbourne and she gave me a copy and I just loved it. So definately look out for issue 2 this month.

Also look out for Cosmo Pregnancy, LOVE that one and we will be in there again. House and Garden's Dec 09 issue is also out and if you have a look in the Xmas Gift Guide little booklet you may see some cot couture..

A big thank-you to everyone who visited both stands at the Melbourne PBC Expo. Mum and I had a ball and it was our biggest event yet.

I have some special nurseries to show you-

The first nursery is from Olivia. We did a custom comforter for her (normal price but just the fabirc was sourced for her requirements) and the results are amazing. If you don't know the sex of your baby it ios still so easy to create a look that suits both genders - Thanks Olivia for you beutiful pics!

Angela purchased the coral garden comforter set at the expo and sent me in a picutre of her beautiful unisex nursery. The comforters still work perfectly in an oval shaped cot and I am delighted to be able to share this stunning nursery photo. Thanks so much Angela!

The new fabric designs are clogging my office!! Over 50 bolts of fabric are here and I am delighted.
Andrew my web designer is busy prepping them for the site and they should be on in a few days time.
Animal prints, classic spots, thick stripes, garden themes... a beautiful array of colour that is for sure.

Make sure if you are in Melbourne to come and see us at the Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expo on 16-18th of October at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Mum and I will have so many designs made up to choose from and our exclusive bedding packages which are only available at the show in our new designs plus our old favourites!

I will be on the Touchwood Cots stand who are launching their new range of cots in Australia, and Mum and my gorgeous sister in law to be (hurry up and just ask her Damien!! hint hint) Carla will be on the Cot Couture stand.

Hi,

We had a fabulous time at The Baby Show in Sydney and I was thrilled to be a part of it.

I just want to thank everyone who came and said hello and even some of the customers who purchased from us at the PBC Expo in May who came to The baby show and gave us some wonderful feedback - that floored me and I thank you ladies for stopping by.

There were some awesome displays there that is for sure. I did alot of shopping!

Happy fathers Day to all of the Dad's out there!

I had a wonderful photoshoot with Kirsty from Appleseed Photography at my house on Thursday. We shot so many new things that I just can't wait to see! Will be updating the gallery and website soon with all of the new pics.

Heading over to Sydney in less than two weeks for The Baby Show and I am hopefully taking 40 cot comforter sets over there! Yes, I have been busy, my sewing assistants have also been busy and my office is a complete mess but it is worth it!! Make sure if you are in Sydney on the 18-20th to come and say hi and see alot of the new range and so many different styles to choose from!

Nicole Kerley and Mara from Printspace are also helping with the artwork, so it will be a great visual display.

Touchwood cots and furntiure are exceptionally made and Cot Couture are very proud to be associated with them.

Posting from the beautiful Gold Coast today. I am on holiday, but had some time to check the computer so thought I would blog! The weather here is amazing and I said to my husband that my arms haven't seen the sun in months!

The latest issue of Cosmo Pregnancy is out now and it is just fabulous. I had a long read of it (not pregnant, but still love it) and I was stoked to see some of our products in there too. Some great nursery ideas and a wonderful diary from Catriona Rowntree about her pregnancy too. Love her!

Hi!

Wow we have had a huge few weeks! Very very busy, but very exciting too. I am loving what some my customers are choosing, and I thoroughly enjoy creating some of the most gorgeous sets to date.

Nearly finished ordering alot of new designs for delivery around Sept-Oct. Seems like teal and greys are coming into style. Love the look along with thick stripes too.

Well I have to post a pic of my own line of fabrics that I have designed myself. Love how they have turned out. They are still in the sample stage and will be made into Cot Couture Couture Originals (patchwork custom quilts) - meaning that there is definately only one of that design in the world! Truly a unique nursery then!

Happy Long Weekend!

I am just in the process of getting some of my own designs produced on fabric - and it is all very exciting.

Many people have asked for certain things, and there are only so many designs on the market - so after a few years of trying to find a place to help me with my dream - I finally have, and I am hoping things will turn out wondefully. Be on the lookout for some owls.......

Also I have added 2 new fabrics to the range that are available now, but will be in the fabric design section soon.

I have been specifically looking for new designs for baby boys and I think these designs are so cute, but have a modern touch to them.

Cot Couture has a full page ad in the Interiors section and I was very happy with the results (thanks again to Andrew from Designer Images). I just received some gorgeous pics from Melinda who purchased the Blue Damask Cot Comforter set last week, and her nursery just looks beautiful.

Love how the dark brown cot and the damask blend together to create a really stunning look.

You just can't go wrong woth a chandelier either - just beautiful.

I have just come back from Sydney and I am beaming!!
The Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expo was a complete success and I want to thank everyone who came, bought and visited my stall last weekend. It was a pleasure to meet you all.

Sydney is amazing, and I will continue to toddle over there as it is just buzzing and the Expo is always a fab place to be.

I received an email from Elissa from Melbourne, who purchased the black and yellow birds comforter set and matching cushion last year. She sent me some gorgeous photos of her daughter Sundae's nursery and I am delighted to share some with you.

I absolutely love the black, yellow and cream colour scheme and all of the little accessories, prints and decor she has tied into it. How about that chandelier! Lucky girl. Looks devine. I am sure little Sundae will spend many special times in her beautiful nursery.

Studio Bambini is such a fabulous pregnancy, babies, toddlers and childrens magazine and you can be curled up on the couch reading it for hours just like I did last week.

Well I have popped some gorgeous new fabrics on to the site this week, and I have to say they are just coming up fabulous. We have been busy creating comforters, cushions and art to take some new piccies for the site so you can see how stunning they are. It is all about BIRDS!! 2 of my favourite things - Birds and Chandeliers!

So keep checking back to see even more additions to the collection- have to say I really couldn't choose my favourite.

Also I have a new custom made page with embroidered quilts - love doing those, have some in the works at the moment that I will be selling on the site also as completed quilts. Look out of for an elephant one that uses fabrics from some very talented Adelaide girls from Umbrella Prints.

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the Cot Couture blog. Thought it might be nice to share some of my new ideas, experiences, favourite designers and new fabrics with you on a regular basis.

My name is Jessica and I am a Mum to two little boys - Dillan 4, and Logan, nearly 2, and wife to my hubby of 7 years Jason.

I have been running the Cot Couture wesite for over a year now and love it! The business was born in my head on the exercise bike (of all places) and a year down the track has given me alot of happiness and I have met some wonderful people along the way.

I am trained as a primary school teacher, taught a wonderful year 4-7 class at Tarlee PS for 5 years, and then once Dillan was born became a stay at home Mum. I enjoyed teaching, but didn't have a passion for it to continue, plus I wanted to be home with my boys.

I had always wanted to be a fashion designer right from when I was young. I remember when I was in primary school I created a 20 page book of models and fashions - sort of like a fashion show in a book I suppose! When the time came to pursue a career path, fashion designing wasn't as assessible here in Adelaide, and I had to go to Melbourne to pursure it. That teamed with the fact that I couldn't draw didn't help. So I did the next practical thing and went into teaching like my Dad.

When Dilly was 6 months I decided I wanted to sew. I went down to Spotlight and Mum watched Dilly for 2 hours while I learnt to make him some overalls! I loved picked out the fabric and just being able to sew made me happy. Sewing clothing was hard, but I loved sewing cushions and blankets, so I did a bit of that. I found some wonderful fabrics online, which I imported a little at a time, and I was chuffed the day I saw one of my fabrics on the cover of Vogue Interiors done as a cushion - just like I had done 2 months prior!
As like most Mums we become busy and the sewing stopped for a while, and the concentration went onto other things.

Anyway a year later, when I was pregnant with Logan, I searched for modern baby bedding that would suit my needs. I had already done the cute baby stuff with Dillan, and I knew they just outgrow it so fast, so I wanred to decorate Logan's room in a more contemporary style.

That was hard! I searched and searched everywhere to find what I needed, but what I got really wasn't what I wanted. I remembered the fabrics I used to get and went and looked for them again. What I found was wonderful. I made up a gorgeous room and I loved it.

In Novemeber 07, on my exercise bike, I had an idea. "Why can't I create modern baby bedding for other Mums like me?" There was no reason why I couldn't, but I needed some help too. I did a lot of research, many phonecalls and a couple of months later Cot Couture was born on the web.
My gorgeous Mum helps me wash fabric, and comes along to the Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expos that I do. We have so much fun together.
I have a wonderful sewing assistant who helps me create the comforters (she is awesome at what she does), and I have a great web designer who I clog up his email with new additions to the site. Sorry Andrew! here is his site if you are interested - www.designer-images.net

So there you have it. I have so many gorgeous fabrics that I am currently creating into comforters and pillows and stay tuned in the next few weeks on here and my site to see them.
